Dear Parents and Students,

Hope all is well with everyone and their families. With summer fast approaching we will be making some changes to our fees and scheduling effective July 2nd. This change will improve student development and offer more scheduling flexibility for all students. We will be introducing four 30 minute group classes per week. These classes are open to all students and will focus on fitness, techniques and skill development. Through our group lessons we also hope to bring back the community and social atmosphere of Martial Arts. Group class times are still to be determined. If you would like to provide your input on group class days and times please use the following link to complete our survey.

Our fees will now be monthly at a rate of $100+ tax. This will include the option of attending all group classes per month (approximately 16 classes) and an additional 4 private lessons that you can book through our website at your convenience. Starting June 15th you will be able to book for July. All following private lessons can booked up to one month in advance. This format will give everyone the opportunity to work with multiple instructors and varying time slots. Group lessons will be held using Skype and a link will be sent out to all registered students at the end of June. No booking is required for group lessons. Students who attend their 4 private lessons in a month will be eligible for grading as soon as they have met the curriculum and personal development requirements. If you have any questions about the upcoming changes, please feel free to contact us at info@wellnessmartialarts.com.

For now we are not permitted to operate in a physical space until phase 3 of Ontario's re-opening plan. Even then, we may have to continue with physical distancing. If that is the case then our virtual program will be the better option to provide a higher level of service and instruction. Our goal remains to re-open a physical space around the same area in the future. With enough support for our virtual program from our students and their parents we will be able to make that a reality. Book a free trial at https://www.wellnessmartialarts.com/book-online

We hope to see you in class!

Thank You,

Dear Students, Parents & Guardians,

We hope everyone made the best of this summer. It was definitely very different from any other summer we've ever experienced but we really enjoyed spending time with family and working with our students online.

We are currently in the process of vacating our location at 2131 Williams Pkwy and to focus all of our efforts on virtual lessons. We are planning on returning to a physical space around the same area in the future. As of right now we are not too sure when that will be. We will revisit the idea of re-opening in October and our decisions will be based on the latest trend of COVID-19.

We have built and excellent Virtual Program that continues to help students achieve their Martial Arts goals. We plan on continuing our Virtual Program indefinitely and have tested our first group of Black Belts just 2 weeks ago. Congratulations to our 2020 Black Belts who were up to the challenge and persevered through the uncertainty that they faced every day. It was tough, as every Black Belt test should be.

We are currently offering 2 free lessons for all students new to our Virtual Program. This is available to all students that have been previously enrolled at Wellness. To redeem your 2 free lessons please reply to this e-mail with the students name and an e-mail address that we can contact you at.

This will be the last e-mail that we send out to inactive students until we re-open our physical location.

We look forward to future and embracing whatever change lies ahead.

Thank you for your continued support!

Dear Students, Parents & Guardians,

It's been a while since our last update and we hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy. Right now it looks like the numbers with regards to COVID-19 are trending in the right direction and we are continuing to monitor the situation to help us make an informed decision. We are currently in discussion of finding ways to re-open safely while still being able to cover all parts of our curriculum. We have many ideas and will be testing things out on a small scale before making any decisions. Until then we are not willing to take any risk when it comes to the health of our students and their families. We have decided to keep our doors closed for a little longer. We are waiting to see the results of students returning to school in September. Once we get that information we should be in a position to make a decision on the future of physical classes. In the mean time we have been working on adding more to our Virtual Lessons. We have introduced weapons and self defence and are continuing to hold monthly belt testings. We have a variety of instructors to choose from and a very flexible schedule to accommodate your needs. Look out for more additions coming soon, including Personal Training for adults to help them achieve their fitness goals. We are experimenting more with Virtual Group Lessons but have found that we are seeing amazing results with the Virtual Private Lessons, so that will continue to be our main focus. I encourage everyone to give our Virtual Lessons a try by visiting our website and booking a free trial. https://www.wellnessmartialarts.com/book-online

We look forward to seeing everyone!

July 20th 2020

Hey,

We are excited to announce a change to some of our booking features that we will be testing throughout the month of August. We are currently experimenting so we apologize in advance if there are any errors. If you had any bookings on Fridays in August they may have been cancelled. Please schedule them again.

By now I hope you've had the opportunity to work with all of our instructors. They all have their unique perspective on Martial Arts and have something different to offer when it comes to coaching and Martial Arts concepts. I have been their main instructor throughout their Martial Arts career and have always encouraged them to challenge what I teach because that will give us all the opportunity to grow. I encourage them to keep an open mind and to learn from everyone around them whether it be another instructor, a student or a parent. One thing that all of our instructors have in common is the fulfillment we get from seeing our students and the people around us succeed.

We have doubled our available time slots to give our students more flexibility for bookings. Lessons can be booked a maximum of 14 days in advance and can be cancelled up to 24 hours before your lesson. When booking your next lesson you can now click the pull down menu to select a specific instructor to book with. Each instructor has their own set schedule. If a time you prefer isn't available please try booking with another instructor. I encourage students to learn from all instructors as they will all offer something slightly different. We look forward to continuing to improve our Virtual Lessons and we appreciate your support throughout this process.

Thank You!

July 2nd 2020

Hey Everyone,

Hope you guys are doing well and taking some time to enjoy the beautiful weather. After getting feedback from our students and parents we have decided to scrap our plans for virtual group lessons and focus all our efforts on our virtual private lessons. We came to this decision because we couldn't establish a perfect day and time that worked for the majority. We also thought about the scenario of doing a live group lesson and if students couldn't attend they would be able to follow along to a recorded copy at a time that is convenient to them. Ultimately we feel this creates a situation where the students are now just following videos and having to teach themselves. There is an abundance of instructional videos online that you can use if you want to take the self taught approach. Our private lessons are about making progress with an instructor towards your martial arts goals. With private lessons we are able to tailor our teaching and our approach based on each individual and their needs. We cover basics, katas, weapons, self defense and use our martial arts philosophy to assist with character development. Belt testings are done monthly and we have increased our standards when it comes to being eligible to test. We have seen great results. We are planning on releasing some new warm-up and stretching videos in the future to compliment our private lessons.

In July & August our schedule will be from Monday to Thursday, 2:00pm-7:00pm. We will monitor the demand closely and will open up more days and times as needed.

Starting July 2nd our fees will be $50+tax and will include 5 private lessons. These lessons do not expire and can be carried over until they are used up. Belt testings from White to Brown Stripe will be $40+ tax and will include the 20 minute test plus delivery of the belt to your home. If you need any equipment such as kicking targets, bo staffs, nunchucks or a new uniform please let us know as we can have these items shipped to your door as well.

If you haven't already participated in our Virtual Lessons I encourage you to book a free trial. You can book your lesson by going to www.wellnessmartialarts.com/members

From there use the password: focus

Click Book Virtual Lesson, then select Free Trial to schedule your class.

We look forward to working with everyone!

June 15th 2020

Hey Everyone,

Hope you guys are doing well and continuing to stay cautious and healthy. We are making some changes to our online program starting Thursday July 2nd 2020. The fees will remain at $50+tax but it will now include 4 private lessons that have no expiry date plus 3 group lessons every week. Tentatively, group lessons will be every Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday at 5:00pm starting July 2nd. Group lessons will be held on Twitch and Youtube. Search for Sensei_Len and subscribe for notifications. You can attend as many group lessons as you'd like. Group lessons will be focused on fitness, fundamentals, and challenges. If you would like to work towards a new belt level, that will be covered in your private lessons. Belt testing up to brown belt will be $40+tax which will include a separate 15-20 minute 1 on 1 test and your new belt shipped directly to your home.

We ask that you use any lessons remaining from your previous payment by the end of June. If you have more than 4 lessons left over at the end of June it will be reduced to 4 in July. By July everyone should be on our new virtual lessons package. We have currently blocked off the month of July to start preparing for the group lessons. You will be able to book your July lessons at the end of June.

We will no longer be offering free private lessons. We also won't be taking any new students until July when some more space should be cleared up on our schedule.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding!

May 18th 2020

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

Hope everyone is enjoying the Victoria Day weekend. There has been a bit of positive news recently in regards to Ontario entering its first phase of reopening the economy, unfortunately a business like ours wont be permitted to reopen until the final phase. With all that being said there is still hope for the future of Wellness Martial Arts. Right now we are facing an issue of the costs associated with the physical Dojo space while not generating much income. We are exploring all options including vacating the space and potentially opening up at a new location in the future. However this is not what we want to do and it is being considered as a last resort.

If we reopen this year it can potentially be as early as September but wont be until well after we are cleared to do so. We will be taking a very cautious approach to reopening. Here are examples of some of the changes that will be made.

Class sizes will be between 5-10 students + 2 instructors.
Classes will be booked in advance online.
All payments will be made online.
Students and instructors will be required to wash/sanitize hands before and after each class.
There will be a 10 minute gap between classes.
Bathrooms and common areas will be sanitized before the start of each class.
Dojo will be rearranged to control the flow of traffic and to promote physical distancing.
There will be no physical contact and students will be spaced out accordingly.

These are just a few of the new policies that will be put in place. If you have any suggestions please let us know.

To help us make our decision please answer the following questions and reply to this e-mail.

Do you still see a value in Martial Arts lessons?
Would you feel comfortable returning to classes under the new guidelines?
Are you interested in a combination of virtual and physical lessons?
Are you planning to return to classes as soon as we reopen?

Thank you for your input.

Here are a few ways that you can continue to support Wellness during this time.
1. If you have an outstanding balance on your account please make your payment.
2. Register for virtual private lessons.
3. Tag us in your training videos on Instagram.
4. Keep in touch.

Thanks again for your input and support. All students that don't reply to this e-mail will be deactivated from our system just so that we can get more accurate numbers to make more informed decisions. You can always be reactivated in the future.

Talk to you soon!

May 11th 2020

Hey Students, Parents and Guardians,

We hope everyone is keeping up with their training and fitness. With the new information released yesterday by Premier Ford it seems like there is some optimism when it comes to certain businesses re-opening under new health and safety guidelines. Unfortunately businesses like ours still seem a very long way from re-opening our doors. The future of the physical dojo space is uncertain. I encourage everyone to continue their training by taking part in our virtual lessons through Skype. You can book your 1 free lesson per month by visiting www.wellnessmartialarts.com/members and using the password: focus. Then click on book virtual lesson.

We are planning some changes in the coming weeks and possibly introducing group classes. We ask that everyone not be set on a certain way of doing things for now. Fees, class times, and curriculum will most likely continue to change based on the circumstances we face at that time. We will do our best to provide some stability so that our students can schedule themselves accordingly.

We wish everyone the best of health and we are looking forward to continuing your training in our virtual space.

Thank You for your continued support!

April 27th 2020

Dear Students, Parents & Guardians,

We hope everyone is doing well. There has been more positive data released this past week about a peak in the number of COVID-19 cases. From my knowledge they are now looking for a decline in the numbers before they begin to lift any of the social distancing restrictions and for non essential businesses to re-open. Due to the nature of certain aspects of Martial Arts, the close contact required to work things like self defence and sparring, we will most likely be one of the last business to re-open in a physical space. One of the beautiful things about Martial Arts is that it is made up of several things from performing arts to community to philosophy. When you've been studying Martial Arts for years, it becomes a way of life.

"The ultimate aim of karate lies not in victory nor defeat, but in the perfection of the character of its participants" - Master Gichin Funakoshi

With focus on techniques and the self-discipline it takes to practice and perform them the right way to the courtesy we show by bowing and thanking our parents after each class I strongly believe that we can continue to accomplish the ultimate aim of Karate through our virtual lessons while at the same time keeping up our fitness levels for a better overall health and well-being

With the continuing growth of our online community and the increasing demand and positive response to our virtual lessons we have decided to reduce our free virtual lessons from 1 free lesson per week to 1 free lesson per month. Additional lessons will be invoiced. With this change we can focus more on the members enrolled in our full program wanting to continue their training and make progress towards their next belt level. I am really excited for this approach to teaching Martial Arts and am looking forward to working with our team of instructors on creating new and exciting ways to pass on our knowledge.

If you have previously paid for lessons in March we can apply the payment to our virtual lessons. With the uncertainty of re-opening a physical space in the near future I encourage all of our students to continue their training through our virtual lessons.

If you would like to no longer receive these e-mails please reply to this e-mail with the subject "unsubscribe".

Thank You and see you online!

April 13th 2020

Dear Students, Parents & Guardians,

We hope that everyone is continuing to stay safe and in good health. With the extended state of emergency in Ontario we can confirm that we will not re-open until after the month of May and possibly beyond. We encourage students to continue with daily exercise and to keep up with their curriculum through our website and Youtube channel. We have also started virtual private lessons through Skype which has been an excellent way for students to get feedback on their progress and to continue to move ahead. We are very excited to have our very first virtual belt testing this Friday April 17th. Though it's not exactly the same as our regular classes and belt testings it's definitely the new reality at the moment and it's been great to see how our students and instructors have been able to adapt.

Booking for our virtual private lessons will be available through our website under the Members section. Please use the monthly password: focus, to log in and you will see a red button that says Book Virtual Lesson. There are 2 options to choose from. Free 5-10 minute session and a paid 15 minute session. Students may only book 1 Free lesson per week, each additional lesson will be billed at $7.50+tax. We also have 8 sessions available for $50+tax. When booking for a paid lesson an invoice will be sent out through e-mail.

If you have any questions or just want to say hi you can always reply to this e-mail.

Keep safe and I'll talk to you soon!

March 30th 2020

Dear Students, Parents & Guardians,

We hope everyone is well and keeping active. We are making this post to inform you that we will not be re-opening on Monday April 6th. As per the current health guidelines we will continue with our physical distancing and our classes will remain suspended until further notice. We will continue to reassess the situation weekly and keep everyone updated.

We have recently posted our Katas and Combinations online as a guide for students to follow and get ahead. To compliment this we are offering 1 free 5-10 minute virtual private lesson per week for all of our students.

In addition we have posted beginner and intermediate warm up and stretching videos to our Youtube channel (Link in Bio). We encourage students to do these exercises daily and use them to warm up before your private lesson.

We will continue to think of ways to keep things going and to keep our students active and engaged. Please check your e-mails as we have sent out more detailed information to all our students.

Thank you for your continued support!

March 20th 2020

Hey Students, Parents & Guardians,

We hope everyone is doing well and trying their very best to follow the current health and social distancing guidelines.

As mentioned previously we have recorded our Katas and Combinations for each belt level and have posted them on our website. To have access to these videos please visit the Members section by using the monthly password: focus. Then click on Kata and Combo Tutorials, select your program and then your current belt colour.

We encourage everyone to stay active while at home. To help with this we are currently working on hosting live virtual workouts for students to participate in. We are also hoping to follow this up with virtual private lessons and belt testings. This way when we are able get back in to the Dojo our students would not have lost progress on their Martial Arts journey. If you are interested in this service please reply to this e-mail or contact us through our website.

We thank everyone for their continued support and we look forward to engaging with all of you online and continuing to work towards your Martial Arts and fitness goals.

March 13th 2020

Dear Students, Parents & Guardians,

We have decided to suspend classes effective Saturday March 14th 2020 and are scheduled to re-open on Monday April 6th 2020.

We will be re-assessing the situation week to week and will be sending out updates as needed. Please continue to check your e-mails, messages, our website and social media.

This month we celebrate our 21 year anniversary and over this time we have never had to suspend classes. It was a tough decision to come to and to be honest we don't know if it will have any impact on the current COVID-19 situation but we do know that it feels like we should take some time and spend it with our loved ones.

During this time you will continue to receive invoices but you are not obligated to make any payments. When classes resume we will work with all of you to make any adjustments that need to be made.

Over the next week we are hoping to release videos of our curriculum online for the students that want to continue their training at home. However this is currently a work in progress.

We would like to thank everyone for all the feedback and opinions that were shared, it was all taken into consideration when making this decision. In the end our commitment has always been to the safety of our students and their families. This is ultimately the only decision that supports that.

We wish everyone the best of care and look forward to working with all of you again in the near future.

Thank You!
